This Is What It Made Us Think About

If you had any question as to what TIWIMUTA could possibly mean, there’s the acronym for you. Founded by Andre Walker, affectionately described as a style maven, TIWIMUTA is a Brooklyn based full-spectrum annual conceptual magazine that launched in 2007.
Walker conceived the concept from a desire to produce an inclusive, high-quality publication with a wildly varied list of contributors, including famed French creative director Jean-Paul Goude and writer Hilton Als to desiger Marc Jacobs.
Each contributor was given unrestrained freedom to create what they wanted. To wit, Walker was adamant he not know what each artist was contributing, despite many insisting on telling him their ideas and concepts. According to Walker, he “did not know or desire to know what [the] perspective contributors would submit.” This was all a part of the joy and surprise for the editor in eventually compiling the magazine in a way that flowed and worked together.
TIWIMUTA is not a magazine, as Walker maintains. It is a beautiful culmination of art and creativity that will be a viable source of inspiration for years to come. Only 6 of the 1200 worldwide are available now at Hirshleifers ETC – don’t wait to get your hands on these!
