Surf’s Up for Proenza Schouler

A recent trip to Tahiti wasn’t the only inspiration behind Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez’s Resort 2010 collection for Proenza Schouler.  The surf and skate cultures that they both grew up with heavily influenced the styles for this season.

Surf and skate culture is an important theme running through this Resort season, and it’s an important element of the ever-present 80’s running a thread through every collection.  Surf and skate cultures, however, are a more playful aspect of the decade, and the evidence is seen in the Van’s inspired checkerboard prints, Hawaiian florals and layered tank tops.

But Proenza Schouler always keeps the city girl in mind, and for each of the laid back styles of this collection, there is a versatility that provides a downtown edge.  Whether worn under a blazer or with a great pencil skirt, each piece holds its own in a boardroom.
