BREAKING NEWS, FN OCTOBER 8, 2007

Hirshleifer’s is strengthening it’s footwear presence with the opening of a 1,200-sq-ft. space dedicated to shoes.  The shop, slated to bow in December, will be located next to the retailer’s main store at the American Manhasset in Manhasset, N.Y.  Lori Hirshleifer, who oversees buying and merchandising, said that while the main store already has a dedicated footwear dept, there just wasn’t enough space for all the designers and styles that the retailer wanted to carry.  The new shop will stock a number of high-profile luxe brands including Manolo Blahnik, Jil Sander, Versace, Giuseppe Zanotti, Miu Mui, Christian Louboutin, Segio Rossi and Bruno Frisoni, among others.  “It’s difficult to say (how many brands we’ll stock),” said Hirshleifer.

“It’s growing every time I see a new collection.  But the more, the merrier.”

Studio 63, an architecture and design firm based in Florence, Italy, along with Hirshleifer’s in-house designer Garnet Spagrud created the space, which features an aubergine, lavender and red color scheme.  Lacquer finishes, chrome and glass fixtures and porcelain floor tiles will outfit the space, with red seating units scattered throughout.  A fiber optic light sculpture will hang from the atrium as a focal point.
