Mark Davis made his mark with an impressive collection of boldly colored jewelry made from vintage Bakelite.Bakelite, which was developed in 1907 by Belgian Chemist Dr. Leo Baekeland, is a hard-to-find substance these days. The ACS National Historical Chemical Landmark recognized Bakelite’s significance as the world’s first synthetic plastic, and the retro appeal of old Bakelite products and the labor intensive manufacturing it required has made it quite a collectible substance.
Mark Davis has ingeniously resuscitated the elusive vintage material in an exquisite way, customizing Bakelite with a sophisticated yet whimsical color palate and bezel-set gemstones that are mounted with 18 carat gold or platinum.
Each piece is truly unique, and the retro styles are given an updated contemporary style that is the essence of Mark Davis.
