Pride: “A becoming or dignified sense of what is due to oneself or one’s position or character;  self-respect;  self-esteem.”

From Go-Go boys in hot pants and glitter on their chest to lesbians stomping down 5th Avenue for the yearly dyke march, there is a lot to be prideful about. For those who don’t know, June is Gay Pride month. So what does fashion have to do with gay pride?  Both fashion and gay pride welcome and recognize the importance of self-expression.  In fashion, it is your business to have an open and objective eye.  Not only are people in the fashion world objective but they have an openness which permits them to appreciate people for their uniqueness, their individuality and their talent. It doesn’t matter what sex, race, or religion you are, there is an equal opportunity to make everyone look fabulous!

As one of the most diverse and non-judgmental industries, fashion allows you to be candid about who you are. During gay pride month we celebrate who we are, how far we have come, and what we have to do to keep moving forward. Fashion throughout the years has challenged us to go outside the lines of society and for that reason it has kept the fashion industry extremely diverse.

So for all you McQueens out there, put on your six inch Christian Louboutins, pretend the parade is your runway, and strut your stuff with pride!
