The Perils of Writing Website Product Descriptions

Jul 22, 2010

For those who have been following developments on our website, you should note a significant improvement in the quality of our product images as well as in the description of our many products.  Let me tell you that it takes someone with a certain creative flair, an artist who appreciates the subtle nuances of each design element, to deconstruct and then reconstruct each handbag, dress, gown, necklace, and on and on.

And there are certain perils associated with the task of describing, identifying and naming, as I too well know.  Here are just a few things to watch out for:

  1. Charmeuse is not a whale
  2. Voile is not toile and toile is not tulle
  3. Shantung is not the name of the rebellion that took place in China in the early 1800’s.
  4. Boucle is not an assortment of flowers.
  5. Chenille is not Coco’s last name.
  6. A gathering is not a get-together.
  7. A false hem and a double-face are neither devious nor underhanded.
  8. And finally, ruching is not something you do when you’re under pressure (i.e., Can’t talk now.  I’m ruching to finish this blog post).
