While America’s financial institutions were crumbling, the Madoff scandal broke news and the economy teetered on the brink of Depression, Makowsky had to face the inevitable question – could she continue selling high priced-designer collections to clients who no longer had the funds, the confidence, the social calendar or the social conscience that called for them?

After finally facing the inevitable reality, Makowsky closed the doors to her stores, Georgina Boutiques, and in their wake her new collection, Christina Makowsky, was born. Based on 28 years of experience, Makowsky now creates clothing for women that is chic, sophisticated and timeless in design. Every piece is lovingly made in America and proceeds benefit humanitarian causes.

As to how she had the strength and will to turn one hardship into a success, Makowsky lovingly quotes her spirited Italian New York mother: “When one door closes, don’t let it hit you on the way out.”
