Born in Tunisia, Azzedine AlaΪa was introduced to the world of art and fashion by his stylish twin sister. He first worked as a sculptor, which gave him an understanding of the complexities and art form of the human body, and then served as a dressmaker’s assistant. In 1980, he launched his first ready-to-wear collection. His second-skin dresses helped define the era and landed him the name “King of Cling.” Azzedine AlaΪa emphasizes structure and form through the use of fabrics and tailored techniques. Today his collections feature beautiful laser cut stretch fitted knit and leather dresses, as well as elaborately crafted footwear.
